My Passport’s Travels

Michelle’s Adventures

All aboard! Sunday, September 22, 2024

Another early morning! Our Lyft picked us up at 6am to take us to Seattle’s King Station for our train ride to Vancouver.  While we’re still not sure where the 6 people would have been seated in the Lyft XL we ordered (which is one of the defining factors of a Lyft XL), we were amazed that all the luggage fit comfortably in the trunk and in the front hood (it was a Tesla). We did learn that they no longer assign seats on the train – which was the reason we arrived so early.  The classic style of the station is lovely.

Soon enough, it was time to board – but they had an equipment switch, so they downgraded us from business class.  Really, it didn’t make that much difference, the seats were still comfortable with plenty of leg room – and the email showing the refund of the upgrade was in my email box before we pulled out of the station.

Eve and I toasted the start of the journey with mimosas, but Mom couldn’t bring herself to drink sparking wine from a can! 😄

The train trip in was lovely. Blue skies most of the way in. Lots of birds. (And a ‘vintage’ feel to all my pictures courtesy of the dirty windows)

We also got to see a little fall color. Well, one tree anyway!

Interestingly, we ended up being the very last people off the train and through Customs. However, we hopped right into a cab that easily held our luggage and started careening through Vancouver with a quick tour through Chinatown. Loved the golden dragons on the street lights!

We arrived at the Pan Pacific! They got us checked in quickly and efficiently – to the point we almost didn’t beat the bellman to the room with our bags!  It’s a lovely city view – although if we press our cheeks up against the window we can barely see the Celebrity Solstice in port.

Time for lunch!! (It’s only 3:30.) We made our way across the street to the food court and had Fat Burgers.  We stopped in Rexall for water, Diet Cokes and chocolates.  Mom headed back to the hotel while Eve and I headed out to find a liquor store for some wine.  My instructions weren’t great, so we ended up finding Mom sitting outside watching the Brilliance of the Seas as she prepared for departure.

We made our way up to our room, started repacking so the drinks would fit in our carryons, and decided it was time. We curled up with the Chiefs game and called it an evening.
