Land ho!! Kauai off the port bow!

We made it in right on time! The port is outside of Lihue, on the eastern side of the island.  Eve and I went up for an early breakfast in Triton’s (dried cranberry pancakes – yum!) then out to catch the shuttle from Island Helicopter Tours.

We checked in, went through safety briefing (wearing our very stylish fanny pack/life vests) and were assigned seats for our flight – Eve got the middle front seat right next to Isabelle, our pilot and I had the back left window seat.

We flew out over the Disney Wonder, then headed off to fly around the island.

As we entered the valley heading towards the Jurassic Park waterfall, Isabelle started playing the Jurassic Park main theme!

We continued on to the Waimea Canyon – “Hawaii’s Grand Canyon”.

Eventually we made our way over to the Na Pali Coast and up through the Valley of the Kings.

Can you believe that all the navigation runs on Isabelle’s iPhone?

Through the mountains – so many waterfalls! To help with perspective, the circle is around another helicopter.

We were glad we had chosen a “doors on” flight as we flew in and out of some rain, but it made for pretty clouds!

Finally, back to the airport and set down.  What an amazing adventure!

Part two – coming soon!!
